How do LED lights work?

LED stands for "Light Emitting Diode", a semiconductor that emits light when current flows through it. LED candles work with a tiny chip that is encapsulated in an epoxy resin housing with a positively and negatively charged layer. When an electric current flows through the semiconductor, an electromagnetic effect is created which causes the negatively charged layer to release energy in the form of photons and generate light.

The colour of LED lights can be varied by changing the materials used in the semiconductor. Depending on the semiconductor material, the light produced can be white or a different colour of the spectrum.
