Every company that places packaged goods on the market in Germany must register in the public packaging register LUCID by 1 July 2022, stating its packaging types. Otherwise, they will no longer be allowed to sell the respective goods.

The distributors of to-go packaging (service packaging) that is filled with goods at the point of sale must be registered in the LUCID packaging register. This is the legislator's way of getting to grips with the flood of to-go packaging in use.

Catering establishments that, for example, hand out disposable service packaging or reusable packaging to guests and customers in the to-go business are considered to be distributors and, in accordance with the legislation, must register in the LUCID register by 30 June.

The Central Packaging Register verpackungsregister.org takes over the task of registering the product responsibles. You can register at any time until 30.6. at lucid.verpackungsregister.org.

For final distributors of to-go food in service packaging, it is possible to purchase packaging already with a licensed system participation from manufacturers or wholesalers. The pre-distributor (manufacturer, trader) is obliged to provide such a confirmation in accordance with the packaging act.
